Advocacy and Outreach Coordinator Internship

Position Overview:

Are you passionate about community engagement, advocacy, and making a meaningful impact in the lives of youth and families? Step's Foundation, Inc. is seeking motivated and driven individuals for our Advocacy and Outreach Coordinator Internship, a hybrid role that includes both in-person engagement within the Kissimmee community and remote coordination and planning activities.

As an Advocacy and Outreach Coordinator Intern, you will play a key role in expanding our community presence, building and maintaining partnerships, and supporting outreach efforts that connect youth and families to our programs. Our work goes beyond mental health awareness to include health and wellness, career development, financial literacy, independent living skills, and soft skills development.

In this role, you will help strengthen relationships with community partners, support advocacy initiatives, and engage volunteers to ensure successful program delivery and outreach. You will work closely with program staff, peer educators, and community stakeholders to increase awareness, participation, and overall impact.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Community Engagement & Partnership Development: Build and maintain relationships with community organizations, schools, and local stakeholders to expand program reach and collaboration opportunities.

  • Outreach & Advocacy: Assist in developing and implementing outreach strategies and advocacy initiatives that promote youth empowerment and community awareness.

  • Event Coordination: Support the planning and execution of community events, workshops, and outreach activities that align with organizational goals.

  • Volunteer Engagement: Assist in recruiting, onboarding, and coordinating volunteers to support programs, events, and outreach efforts.

  • Relationship Stewardship: Participate in meetings and ongoing communication with partners and volunteers to ensure strong, sustained engagement.

  • Resource & Content Development: Help create outreach materials, toolkits, and communications that align with the organization’s mission and messaging.

  • Tracking and Reporting: Monitor outreach efforts, partnership engagement, and volunteer participation; assist in compiling reports to measure impact and inform future strategies.

 

Qualifications:

  • Strong interest in community engagement, advocacy, nonprofit work, and youth development

  • Passion for supporting initiatives related to mental health, wellness, career readiness, and life skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with diverse groups

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and follow through on tasks

  • Comfortable attending community events, meetings, and outreach activities in the Kissimmee area

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team

  • Proficiency in G-Suite (Google Docs, Sheets, Calendar) or similar tools is preferred

  • Interest or coursework in public administration, nonprofit management, communications, social work, or a related field is a plus
