Building Your Epic Summer:

Teens should take a moment to chill and check their vibe. Summer doesn’t end abruptly, but it isn’t everlasting, either. Some teens cruise through their summer break without considering the opportunities they have. They should use their free time to invest in their future by diving into "side hustles."

What are Side Hustles?

Teenagers shouldn't have to hit the pause button on all summer activity. However, the 3-month break from school shouldn’t be an excuse to dismiss other responsible endeavors. Over the summer, teens have the flexibility to modify their schedules, and squeezing in some real-world work experience could benefit them. Aside from the financial benefits, side hustles help build responsibility that shapes our personal growth. Every role is directly tied to leadership, responsibility, and time management. Since they’re independent positions, teens have a bigger platform to display commitment and improve organizational skills.

Side hustles require teens to adjust to certain hours and manage their work efficiently. They can be a bit demanding at times, especially with the professional etiquette that comes with them. But no worries! Our crew has mapped out a 5-step plan to help teens stay on track.

5 Pillars of Professionalism:

D-Discover: Review your current routine to identify areas for improvement.

R-Refine: Adjust any scheduling issues that could disrupt your organization.

I-Incorporate: Implement your new plan to evaluate its effectiveness.

V-Verify: Monitor this routine for a week to assess its impact on your stability.

E-Expand: Enhance your standards by integrating additional work ethics into your routine.

Awesome ways to maximize your impact include...

  • Summer Jobs: Teens can check out sites like Indeed, which offer a ton of job options from swim instructing to waiting tables at restaurants. These gigs don’t have to be career-focused. They can give professional experience with some cash and real-world responsibilities.

  • Internships: For those looking to explore a specific career path, internships are like the bridge between dreams and reality. Since internships match up with their career goals, it’s safe to say that most teens will jump into these opportunities with excitement. These experiences do more than just lay out the path to career success; they also help teens build valuable skills that shape their professional identities.

  • Academic Tutoring: The school year might be over, but the learning doesn’t have to stop. Students can always use a little extra help in core subjects, like math, English, or foreign languages. Academic tutoring is a dynamic way to enhance another student’s academic palette. The goal is to help a student succeed through flashcards, problem sets, and organization tricks. Plus, the teen providing the tutoring will reinforce their own teaching abilities and improve communication.

  • Babysitting: If you enjoy hanging out with kids, this gig might be a perfect match. Babysitters have serious responsibilities when it comes to supervision. Some teens might struggle with the strict demeanor that come with this job. However, babysitting is a meaningful way to improve your leadership skills. You’re trusted with someone else’s safety, which is a big deal. Good communication is crucial in the babysitting world. It will teach you how to connect with people through personalized interactions.

Finding the "Happy Medium":

Your time is precious, and side hustles shouldn’t take over all your summer fun. Teens need to make time for relaxation too. But that doesn’t mean total freedom should dominate your entire summer experience. Often, people feel summer burnout because they haven’t kept a productive mindset. Side hustles keep a teen’s productive gears turning. It’s a chance to connect with more people, manage your priorities, and embrace an independent mindset. This is your time to shine. Enjoy every step of your personal journey as you blossom into a more dynamic individual.
