The “We Don’t Talk About It” Rule
Ever notice how people can talk about:
Relationship drama
School stress
Trending shows
But when someone says,
“I’ve been struggling lately…”
The room goes quiet.
Silence Doesn’t Mean It’s Not Happening
When we don’t talk about mental health:
People feel alone.
They think they’re the only one.
They hide what they’re going through.
But statistically? They’re not alone.
Not even close.
Talking About It Doesn’t Make It Worse
There’s a myth that:
“If I say it out loud, it becomes more real.”
Actually, the opposite is true.
When you say it:
It becomes shareable.
It becomes manageable.
It becomes lighter.
What Talking About It Can Look Like
It doesn’t have to be dramatic.
It can be:
“I’ve been overwhelmed lately.”
“My anxiety’s been loud.”
“I’m not okay today.”
That’s it.
No speech required.
Breaking the Secret Rule
When one person speaks up, it gives others permission to do the same.
You don’t have to share everything with everyone.
But you don’t have to carry everything alone either.
Mental health isn’t a secret.
It’s part of being human.
